Healing, warming, goodness.
I love tea, and this blend is my favourite in fall. When it comes to any ginger tea, there’s no comparison between freshly made and store-bought dried. This recipe was inspired by my favourite server at a little Thai restaurant in Burlington. Back when I was teaching hot yoga, I would run across the parking lot in my sweat-soaked clothes, and she would always give me a pot of ginger tea while I waited for my take-out to fuel me between classes.
I always felt cared for when she poured me a cup, so I love to make this for a friend who needs a warm hug! I can’t think of a more loving porch-drop than this homemade tea in a thermos for a friend with a stuffy nose or fever.
Use this tea to help soothe an upset tummy, chills, cold or flu, or general grumpiness!
This tea is:
- Grounding.
- Comforting.
- Anti-inflammatory.
- Immune-boosting.
- Extremely yummy.
(It’s also makes an incredible mix for a warm bourbon cocktail at Christmas time! Top it with an orange and cinnamon stick in vintage pressed glass. Heaven!)
Ingredients:
- About 2 tablespoons of peeled and shredded fresh ginger root.
- About 1 tablespoon of peeled and shredded fresh turmeric root. (Can substitute 1 tsp of dried.)
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon.
- Dash of ground cloves.
- Juice of 1 lemon.
- 1-2 tablespoons of maple syrup.
- 4 cups of filtered water.
Make your tea:
Add all ingredients to a saucepan and simmer, covered, for about 15 minutes. Strain into your favourite mug and get cozy.
Play with the ingredients and make this recipe your own. You could easily add a dash of cayenne pepper, omit the maple syrup, or swap it out for honey. I’ve also let this blend sit on the stove over low heat for an hour or two for the deepest, spiciest flavours.
